Each of these groups and partnerships have put together programs specifically designed for new owners and for those individuals looking to diversify their participation in racehorse ownership. There is a wide array of investment opportunities ranging from $125 to over five figures.
Each of these groups will be racing at Canterbury Park in 2020. Canterbury Park Racing Club
Having established the very first racing club in the industry almost a decade ago, Canterbury Park once again offers a unique opportunity to not only experience the thrill of Thoroughbred ownership, but also provides a learning opportunity for those looking to one day own a Thoroughbred racehorse on their own. Membership includes a season’s pass, invitation to special events, and a host of other discounts and offers. With the Canterbury Park Racing Club, there are absolutely no bills or other payments to be made after the initial one-time payment. The Canterbury Park Racing Club 2020 directs all net profits to local organizations that work with retired Thoroughbred racehorses in preparation for their second careers or full retirement.
Investments: $199 one-time membership
Highlights: Net profits from this group will be donated to support the efforts of local groups who assist in providing second careers or sanctuary for retired Thoroughbred racehorses from Canterbury Park.
Start making your dreams come true with Empire Racing Stables. Have you always dreamed about owning a racehorse? Well, so did Empire’s stable general manager, Jason Bullard who now owns 24 Thoroughbred racehorses. Empire looks forward to sharing the entire experience with new and current owners at Canterbury Park in 2020. Come join the 2019 co-leading owner at Canterbury for your winning experience.
Investments: Typically, $1,000+, but several options ranging from $125 to 5% shares and up are available
Highlights: Empire Racing Stables was the co-leading owner at Canterbury in 2019. They use top trainers and are based in Shakopee, MN
Taste of Victory Stable
Since 2013, Taste of Victory has led the effort to introduce their mission to over 200 co-owners. Taste of Victory’s mission is simple. EDUCATE their co-owners, introduce them to an EXPERIENCE and most importantly, WIN. Their team has over forty years of combined experience in horse racing and want to share everything they know with YOU. 2020 will be the first time Taste of Victory brings a stable to Canterbury Park and they intend to be a major player.
Highlights: Taste of Victory has campaigned horses at the highest levels including 2019 Breeders Cup participant Hit the Road
Wasabi Ventures Stable
The WV Stables Member Club is a program that gives anyone interested an introduction to horse racing club membership. With the WV Stables Member Club, there are absolutely no bills or other payments to be made after the initial one-time payment. When the horse ends its WV Stables racing career or is sold, the bills come out of the initial payment you made, but you will never be required to pay any additional funds.
Investments: $200 and up
Highlights: Low cost and highly communicative group. They offer all levels of Thoroughbred ownership from racehorses to broodmares.
Abijah’s Hope Group
This partnership group is looking for philanthropic minded individuals. Abijah’s Hope Stables has partnered with Acres for Life who is one of the leading Eagala (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) programs in the world where horses are used to help veterans, first responders, families, and individuals with mental health related struggles. Abijah’s horses are helping to save lives in our communities one race at a time by donating 10% of net purse winnings to the incredible work taking place at Acres for Life. We Run for Hope, Healing, and Transformation.
Investments: $2,500 for each 10% share
Highlights: The group will be headed by Sally Mixon with support from Canterbury Park’s perennial top trainer Bernell Rhone with 10% of net purses won benefitting Abijah’s Hope and their work with Acres for Life.
Women of Canterbury
Private Partnership- Contact MNREP if you are interested.
The once “Sport of Kings” is now increasingly becoming an equal opportunity participation sport. More and more women can be found in all aspects of Thoroughbred horseracing and this group intends on showing the boys who the true winners are. The group will look to purchase a filly or mare, have it trained by a top female trainer at Canterbury, and offer social events to their owners.
Investments: $2,500 per 10% share
Highlights: This will be a private partnership comprised of licensed partners. Each member will have Minnesota racehorse owner privileges and be invited to social events for owners at Canterbury Park.
